Why a piano is not just a heavy box
A piano is hundreds of kilos of wood, cast iron and precision, tuned to a level of accuracy that does not survive being tipped, bounced or left in the cold. We move pianos on their proper end, on piano boards with blankets, and we never rush the tricky bits because the tricky bits are the whole job.
Stairs are where pianos earn their reputation. We assess the route properly, plan the angle and protect every surface on the way through. If a piano genuinely cannot make a particular turn, we say so before we try, not after.

Grand pianos need a plan
Grands are a different discipline entirely. The legs come off, the action gets protected, and the body travels on its side with the whole team on the job. We have moved grands through Manchester terraces, into conservatories and out of churches, and we plan each one like a small engineering project.
For grands and valuable instruments we recommend a specialist piano mover, and we are happy to say so if your instrument deserves more than a generalist. For the vast majority of uprights and digitals, we are exactly the right team.
After the move
Pianos do not like sudden changes of temperature or humidity, so we move them in the tail lift van and advise you to let the instrument settle for a few hours before playing, ideally before tuning. We place the piano where you want it and level it properly before we leave.
